To ask your cable station to run Making Known the Unknown, you have to become a sponsor, which simply means you are asking your cable network to run our show. Unlike commerical television, a sponsor has no financial obligation.

Public Access Sponsorship and How it Works:

As part of your first amendment right to free speech the Federal Communications Commission began to create Public Access studios throughout the United States to coincide with the population in that city or town.  These Public Access studios were created to allow the average citizen access to the airwaves with training and certification.  Although not found in all areas of the US today and no longer required by the FCC, these studios still do exist.

How to Find a Public Access Studio in my town:

The first step to locating a Public Access studio in your town is to contact your local cable TV office.  This is most often the location where you might pay your bill locally or perhaps initiate cable service.  Often times cable companies have become so large that if you call them you may be connected with a “1-800” number in an entirely different state and they usually have no information on local studios.

When visiting or calling your local cable company inquire as to whether they have a public access studio.  Another term commonly used for public access is local origination.

Public Access or Local Origination Studios:

If your local cable company has a public access studio, it may be located near the cable company office or may be located in another part of the same town.  When arriving at the public access or local origination studio, tell them you would like to become a sponsor for a program produced at another public access studio.

Most often the cable company office will provide you with the necessary documentation to start the process.  The cable usually verifies that you are a resident of the town in which the cable company is within your viewing area. 

The next step involves you contacting our producer Tina Tarryk with the name and phone number of the public access studio in your location.  Tina will then contact the studio and make arrangements for delivery as well as viewing times and dates.  From this point on Tina Tarryk will continue to feed the studio new programs as needed.
